Please excuse my language, but: HOLY FUCK.
When did we get to 35/35?
But here it is. I’m 35 weeks pregnant. I have 35 days until my due date.
And with it came a visit to the OB.
Can I pause for a moment and say how much I love my OB? The guy I saw for basic infertility treatment after I balked at what our RE recommended? From the start, he was awesome. As I sit here, with a little over a month to go before Dubya makes her appearance, he’s still awesome. Because he’s the head of a big practice, it’s not a guarantee that he’ll deliver Dubya, but I’m still happy I went to him.
Because he tested things my RE didn’t want to test. Because he recommended something that was a little loopy, even for his colleagues, but it coincided with a spontaneous pregnancy for us (I can’t say for certain that did it: proof and all that jazz). Because he’s easy to talk to; neither he nor any of his colleagues have ever dismissed me out of hand. Because it’s obvious the practice puts the health of its patients as top priority. Because the staff has been extraordinary. If you’re in the DC area and are looking for an OBGYN, please feel free to message me and I’d be happy to recommend him.
So, OB visit. In my last visit, I hadn’t gained anything in two weeks, Dubya was breech, and the husband and I walked away a little disappointed. We’re over it, but since then I’ve been doing exercises from spinningbabies.com here and there (though none consistent, I’m ashamed to admit). Dubya has been moving A LOT, so I know she’s twisting and turning in there. I had no clue where she could be position-wise, though.
This time, I’d gained a bit (as odd as that may sound, I’d rather gain than not at this point), Dubya’s heartbeat was strong and sure, and my OB felt around my belly to see where Dubya might be. He felt a hard end near my pelvis and another hard end near my left ribs. Dubya’s head had been on the right two weeks ago. Lately, I’d been noticing movement in my pelvis area and in the vicinity of my right ribs. My hope is that the right-rib movements are little feet kicking, and the rhythmic movements that occasionally hit down low are hiccups—both would indicate that she’s in the head-down position at this point. Whatever the case, my OB said to schedule an ultrasound for next week instead of week 37.
So that I did, and so begin my weekly appointments. C’mon, Dubya! If you’re not already head down, get there so you can make your grand entrance into this world on your terms!
With 35 days until my due date (and trust me: I’m projecting that I’ll be pregnant longer than that), I’m trying to buckle down at work (clearly not hard enough) and we’re trying to get things organized at home. It still feels like there’s a lot to do—and there is. But I’m doing what I can at the moment.
(If you have any spare vibes for making sure Dubya’s in the head-down position next week [and stays that way!], I would surely appreciate them!)
